Lovely Professional University organized Inter School Open Basket Ball Championship
Lovely Professional University has been witnessing Inter School Competitions in more than 20 Sports Events in the campus. Thousands of would be Engineers, Educationists, Pharmacists, Research- Scholars are showcasing their inborn talent in the related field of the sports activity. Under this, Inter School Open Basket Ball Championship was held at the Campus. In all, 14 teams participated on knock-out basis. Starting from the first week of September, the championship saw its final match played, as a neck to neck competition in which the School of Computer Applications defeated School of Management by 45-42. The sports loving students enjoyed all the matches with much fan-fare. The Director General, Er HR Singla, of LPU awarded trophy to the winning Team and prizes to the chosen best players.
Congratulating the winners and motivating all other participants to different competitions, Er Singla said: “The huge participation of Professional Programmes’ students in sports is clearly indicating that individual talents play major role in the overall development of a student. That is why our university is propagating on these lines so that a student must not waste his inborn talents in any way. We have even offered many scholarships to the deserving sportsmen-women so that they may progress on both the lines of talent development- Individual as well as Professional.” Continuing he added: “Even the Flexi Credit System, adopted towards the selected programmes by the University, is based on the same tones where an Engineering, Bio-Technology or some other student is free to choose a few courses from other department including sports.”
Most recently, LPU has undergone an extensive restoration and rehabilitation process transforming itself into a state-of-the-art special events arena. In addition to, Basketball Championship, LPU is, also organising competitions in the fields like Judo, Lawn Tennis, Table Tennis, Wrestling, Boxing, Badminton, Chess, Football, Hockey, Cricket etc. Eyeing Olympics, the management is trying hard to prepare the students in such a way that at least they may aspire to join Indian Olympic team. In fact, LPU has proven to be a great setting for sports men/women, athletes and fans of the events.
A few of the participating students Hamid, Roger, Manav, Rohit, Kulwinder and Raphael said: “We are, of course, thrilled to participate in the different sports activities. These all activities are providing us much fun, relaxation, encouragement and team spirit along with our studies.”

Representatives from Nine Government Universities & Institutes of New Zealand visited lovely Professional University
A great Education Expo based on ‘Study in New Zealand’ was organized by the Division of International Affairs of Lovely Professional University. Representatives of Nine government oriented Universities and Institutes of New Zealand from Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington, Christchurch etc participated prominently in the Expo. The Chief Co-ordinator to this was International Marketing Manager, Ms Robyn McCollum from Hamilton. Hundreds of students kept thronging day long to the Admissions Hall of the University for information on New Zealand.
Talking to the Media, the Chancellor of the University, Mr Ashok Mittal informed: “More than one thousand students utilized fully, this day long and first time ever ‘Study & Settle in New Zealand’ Education Expo. They had face to face interaction with representatives of top Government Universities / Institutes of New Zealand. They made intensive queries and cleared their doubts about Programmes of their choice, successful career, part time job opportunities, equivalence to other top universities of the world and even lurking uncertainties of being in a foreign land.” He also said: “We want to accord all types of opportunities to an aspiring student so that he/ she may prove out to be an essential part of the increasingly globally- connected world.” He further added: “Such Expos are managed so as to ensure to have our alumni more global.”
Ms McCollum from Wintec and Joanne Duncan from Waiariki said: “We have got a great opportunity at LPU to guide many hundreds of students belonging to different parts of India and many other foreign lands. We have observed that the students at the University are themselves very well conversant about the foreign educational scenario. However we provided them all other additional details which pertained to their present day queries in regard to the latest programmes of immediate global needs.” She further added: “We have clearly informed the students about government own-ship of the Institutes, vocationally and academic focused qualifications, exit awards, degrees, diplomas etc.
Some of the students, Sohail. Puneet, Srishti, Raveena, Zubaeida &Hassan said: “We have come to know in elaborations about education opportunities in New Zealand and the sure pathway to settlement there, post study. It is a stark reality that we get enormous opportunities through our University end so that we may develop in accordance to present wants of the Industry and society.”

Lovely Professional University won Italian Trade Commission(ICE) Scholarships
Lovely Professional University has won Italian Trade Commission (ICE) Scholarships, this year. LPU has further selected its 8 meritorious students and one Faculty of Mechanical Engineering Department under this scheme. They are all, presently, on an educational tour for 15 days to Italy. Under IMTTA 2011- ITALIAN MACHINE TOOL TECHNOLOGY AWARD, visiting students have to go for an extensive and detailed visit programme IN ITALY up to 16th JULY, 2011. The visiting ones are provided with free to and fro air-tickets, hotel-stays, food and transport for local visits.
Talking to media, the Chancellor of the University, Mr Ashok Mittal said: “These scholarships are annually awarded by the Italy Government to three countries- India, US and Russia. This year our University bagged these for our Country.”He further explained, “We have further selected 8 Mechanical Engineering students on Merit Basis, Personal Interviews and Project Reports as per the Italian Embassy.” He also added: “This is a great chance for our hard working students to further get exposed to global experience of immense utility. They will be able to learn about latest Italian Machine tool technologies and machines in practical shape, through present tour.”
Some of the visiting students, Manveer Singh, Shouqat Ali, Rohit, Sneh hold: “University always try to accord the best of the opportunity to students so that we may keep on learning latest trends and techniques. The present endeavour to Italy is one of the best examples for this.” It is illustrative that students will get valuable knowledge about different projects, along with the American and Russian students.
MIP Representatives will train them through vast presentations about ‘Strategic Management of Technological Innovation’, ‘Design evolution and industrial product Trends’ and ‘Technology Driven Innovation: Virtual Prototyping’ at MIP POLITECNICO DI MILANO. They also have to absorb an extensive technical know-how through Association of Italian Manufacturers of Machine Tools Robots, Automation Systems and Ancillary Products (UCIMU-SISTEMI) and Institute of Industrial Technologies and Automation at MILAN. Not only this, they will also have free time to recreate themselves under a wonderful trip to naturalistic-cultural spot in the surroundings of Milan, and Museum of Flight at Varese, MUSEO GALLERIA FERRARI at Maranello and Ducati, factory and museum at Bologna.

Hundreds of foreign students are thronging Lovely Professional University for Admission
Grown phenomenally, Lovely Professional University is getting on its rolls many aspiring International students from 22 countries. Already having students from 16 foreign lands, six new countries, UGANDA , RWANDA, BURUNDI, ERITREA, MALDIVES & ITALY have lengthened up this list recently. More than 400 such students have enrolled themselves in different courses till now. The present rate of admission of students is double than the previous year. They have preferred B.Sc. (IT) & BCA this year. Other popular courses amongst them include B.Tech, BBA, MBA, MCA & Physiotherapy. USA, Philippines, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Congo, Kenya, Tanzania, Nepal and a few others are those countries from which LPU already has admissions. University expects a total of near six hundreds International students this session.
Talking to Media on this significant development, Mrs. Rashmi Mittal, Pro Chancellor, LPU, said “The interest amongst the desirous foreign students to explore educational opportunities in India has increased immensely, as compared to the past few years. Our University already has close to 300 foreign students studying in its campus; and, the new addition will, probably, make LPU the university with largest number of international students studying at single campus in India. This achievement has marked a major step towards fulfilling our objective in providing education of international standards. In fact, we are determined to impart professional as well as world level acceptable knowledge and training so as to make our students globally fit.”
It is worth illustration that the number of foreign students taking admission in Indian educational institutions has been showing a regular and steady increase for the past few years. Sharing his experience at LPU, Azze, a Nigerian student who is pursuing a degree course in B.Tech, second year, said, “LPU follows a uniform curriculum without any disparity among the States or countries and provides higher education at a very reasonable cost. All foreign students are given equal attention and treatment like the Indian students. It is really working wonders for us as we mix-up well with them and learn about a new and exciting culture, almost every day.”
In fact, LPU has a dedicated International department for the foreign students which take care of their requirements related with understanding towards the new culture, local language, communication with parents etc. To overcome these barriers, LPU also encourages the foreign students by organizing events in which they showcase and share their cultures and way of living with the Indian students.
